Synopharm Fine Chemicals

Laboratory building in Barsbüttel near Hamburg, 1998

„As extension to a single/double-storey building of 1972, the new three-storey, 12 meter high addition occupies a site 37 meter long by only 5,5 meter wide and contains production labs, administration and managers flat. The basic block is clad with black-patinated galvanized steel sheet and black glass, interrupted by clear glass areas and articulated or penetrating forms, in part revealing the r.c. framework.

The facade influences the interior where entrance and office doors occur in the plane of the steel cladding, faced with the same material. Behind the glazed corridor the black finish remains glossy whereas the external surfaces weather matt. Wellproportioned form and high quality interior spaces result from careful design.”
